Covid Fatigue. It’s that feeling of “here we go again avoiding crowds, staying close to home, being careful.” Nostalgia. It comes when we remember being tourists in Los Angeles for the cost of a light rail ticket.
Four years ago, the Goldline train station in Azusa opened and we began to add urban hiking to our outdoor adventures. We happily took advantage of the light rail for quick and inexpensive trips to Pasadena, DTLA, Boyle Heights, even as far as Culver City.
We tromped the city streets looking for public art, interesting and historical architecture, we looked for interesting food in Little Tokyo, Chinatown, the Arts District. It was possible to go from Azusa to Olvera Street in 45 minutes, hop off the train, cross the street, grab some taquitos (and other goodies) and turn around to go home. When you rode the train during off peak hours, you would pay a whopping $1.50 (or $.70 if you are 62 or older.)
And we took pictures. With the omicron variant putting the kibosh on our plans to hop the trains again, it seems we are facing another time when we are asked to be patient and cautious. Sigh. At least we still have pictures. See?
The last two buildings were photographed in Hayden Tract in Culver City.
Really diggin’ that first one.
