In LA, May Day means community

Since l928 May Day has been celebrated as a day to honor the workers of the world.  In  Los Angeles on this May first, citizens gathered in the time honored tradition of demonstrating support  for the workers and their labor unions.

Thousands gathered in MacArthur Park in downtown LA, giving the sunny spring morning an additional splash of color as contingents from participating unions dressed in matching red, green, orange, yellow and purple shirts.  It was a colorful blooming of springtime combined with a determined demonstration of support for American Labor.

By 10a.m., thousands  gathered with signs, speeches, music and enthusiasm and by lla.m., they marched to City Hall, three miles away:

Marchers carried home made signs that stressed community, support for immigrants, and criticism of politicians:

In the end, beauty prevailed with butterflies adding to the sunny spring day:

After the speeches, cheers and a three mile walk to LA’s City Hall, participants were welcomed to Grand Park with more butterflies and vendors:
