July 17, Claremont, California.

The protest turnout was in the hundreds this Thursday afternoon, and it was enthusiastic, noisy and joyful.
Although the day was chosen to honor the legacy of John Lewis, the civil rights leader and long time member of Congress, it brought together the themes of “No Kings” and stern disapproval of current issues.
Hundreds of citizen demonstrators were joined by a contingent of SEIU union members, dressed in purple shirts, carrying signs and chanting.
Many of the signs were hand-made, some expressed anger or sadness.

The afternoon passed with a lively and peaceful protest. All traffic signals were obeyed, no one blocked the streets. Busses and emergency vehicles hurried on their way across busy Foothill Boulevard.

Children and pets were part of the crowd. (Pictured, a gentle Giant Schnauzer.)
