If I Only Had a Job…

Here’s a short poem that could be sung to the tune of “If I Only Had a Brain” from the Wizard of Oz:

I Would Change my name to Bob
And stay away from banks
Because there they’d call  me Rob.

But really, if I had a Job, I would work and have fun,
Because working with joy is good for the one who has had none.

I would eat out once in a while
And smile like a crocodile
With a grin and I would spin, and I would dance with joy.
If I Only had a job.

I would do the things I haven’t been able to do.
I would go here and there, and I’d smile more when I went out the door,
And tell everyone “toodle-oo!”

I would save my money for my soon-to-be honey
And save my cash and go someplace nice
And when I bought a car, I would just say
“Here’s from storing it on ice!” *

I would sleep better in my bed
And dream happy dreams and paint the town red
Because if I Only had a job
Life would be better–and well said.

*(You  know, cold hard cash?)
